OUR PROCESS

OUR PROCESS

At Legendary Stone, we understand the importance of each of our client’s unique projects. We take great care in each job we take on in the Independence and Kansas City areas, whether it be updating your countertops or beautifying your fireplace. That fact is reflected in the careful process we have put together.

Get Your Free Estimate

Your new countertops or other project starts with getting a free estimate from our store. If you have the rough dimensions or cabinet drawings, we can use those to make an estimate. We know you may have questions about this. If you do, you can make an in-person appointment with us. You can also contact us online, and we can help you.

After You Accept The Estimate

After you accept our estimate, we will schedule a template appointment. At Legendary Stone, we make a laser template, ensuring everything will fit correctly. The last thing you want is countertops that don’t line up perfectly; with our process, that is not something you will have to worry about.

Prepare for Your Template Appointment

Once an appointment is scheduled, there are some things you will need to do to prepare. To ensure an accurate measurement, please ensure that your countertops are clear of any items. We also encourage you to have all components installed. This can include things like:

  • Sinks
  • Faucets
  • Appliances

If that is not possible, we will need model numbers. If you are providing the sink, that needs to be on-site along with the faucets as well. This way, we can take an accurate measurement of your project. Other things you will need to make a decision on:

We will not alter the window and door casing to accommodate new countertops. We will notch the countertop in order to accommodate the case. If you do not want a notched countertop, please modify the casing before your template appointment.

Supports may be required for overhangs over specific sizes. We can install these for you, or you can opt to install them yourself. If you do, please have them installed before your template appointment.

If you are providing a sink, please have it on-site during the appointment so we can take accurate measurements. We may need to bring your sink to our shop to make accurate cuts as well.

Unfortunately, we do not perform major plumbing work outside of disconnects. We can provide recommendations to plumbers in the Kansas City area if that is something you need help with. Keep in mind using old plumbing fixtures can be damaged during the installation process, so it is best to install new components.

Cabinets and end panels should be permanently installed and structurally sound. Level alignment is defined as within ⅛ inch in a 10-foot span as well.

We know you need your countertops to handle your daily life. Our goal is to leave your current tops in place until installation. There is a chance that they need to be removed before installation so we can create an accurate template. For an additional fee, this is something we can do for you.

During Template Appointment

The template appointment can take up to two hours, depending on the project. Once it is complete, we will be able to provide you with the final price of the job. Once the template is complete, changes are highly discouraged.

The project detail review is when one of our Legendary Stone associates reviews each detail and ensures you are satisfied with the results. Once this is done, you can sign all of the documents we need to move forward with the project.

During your appointment, we can discuss seam placement. Seams can vary by slab size and other factors. They are placed depending on the size and design of the stone slab. It is important to note that seams can be relocated to avoid undesirable elements in the slab.

Depending on the style of sink you have, we may need to bring it to our manufacturing location in Independence to ensure accurate cuts.

After the template quote is approved, our team at Legendary Stone will schedule production and installation dates. The countertop will be built according to the template, which means the final product will match your expectations.

Fabrication

Fabrication is the next step in getting the perfect countertops or other improvement project into your home. The laser template is plugged into a computer that communicates with our CNC machine. This high-tech piece of equipment means that the materials are precisely cut to specification. Depending on the material, polishing will also occur.

Installation

The day for installation has finally arrived, and it is likely an exciting time. We will contact you ahead of time to confirm the appointment, as there are some steps that need to be taken.

  • Confirm your schedule
  • Locate and secure power sources
  • Disconnect any new appliances
  • Remove existing appliances from the work area
  • Clear the work area
  • Create an easy path
  • Disconnect plumbing, gas, and electric

Before your appointment, there are things that are best avoided. Do not complete any final wall preparation. During installation, damage can occur to walls, though we do our best to avoid it. Still, scrapes, punctures, and dings are possibilities.

If you have concerns about scrapes or damage, please contact our team.

During the Installation Process

During the installation process, we will take care to be as non-disruptive as possible. But, as a major home improvement project, there will be power tools and other noises that occur. Our goal is to complete the majority of our projects between four to six hours.

For an additional charge, we can handle the removal of your old countertops. That way, you have one less thing to worry about. And, of course, after installation is complete, we will clean the area so you can enjoy your new countertops.
